Lt. Governor's of each Division (1-18) was auctioned off to raise money for the Matt Palys Memorial Scholarship - Bella was auctioned for $500

WCHS donated $150 to the Matt Palys Memorial Scholarship

Lexie Green was installed as the Lt. Governor for Division 7

Congratulations to the WCHS Key Club sponsored by Mrs. Frances Gillentine! Students attended the International Key Club Convention in Phoenix, Arizona June 26-July 3, 2011. The Key Club's scrapbook placed first and Jessica Bloom placed third in oratory. Placing in the top eight were Macie Dodson and Bella Martinez who received a standing ovation.
The members also visited the Grand Canyon National Park; Oak Creek Canyon; Sedona, Arizona; Hoover Dam; Las Vegas, Nevada; Arizona Sonora Desert Museum; and the Saguaro National Park.

 Congratulations to WCHS students Elijah Posey and Tyler Cagle. Elijah placed 2nd in oratory; prepared speech on volunteerism and Tyler placed 2nd in special talent; vocal solo/guitar piece "If You're Readin' This" at the Sr. High Beta Club National Convention in Nashville, TN. June 2011.

 Congratulations to WCHS student Bella Martinez for placing 3rd at the National Jr. Beta Convention in the speech competition. She has won first place at the state level three years in a row and has placed all three times she has attended Nationals. This success in speech is one in which very few, if any, has ever accomplished. Also competing at Nationals was Fallon Christian in English and Hayden Hodge in watercolor painting. They both represented WCHS and Double Springs Middle School very well.

1st Place in the Clarence Brooker Non-Traditional Scrapbook
1st Place in Video; 1st Place John H White Achievement Award Platinum Division; 2nd Place in Club Skit; 3rd Place in Non-Digital Poster; 3rd Place in District Project Overall Fundraising ($3,000); 2010-2011 Distinguished Club; Received the Keeping Promises Patch; Received the UNICEF Patch.

 Congratulations to WCHS 9th grade students Isabella Martinez and Fallon Christian for their State Beta Convention wins. Isabella placed first in Speech and Fallon placed second in English. Fallon took a test that consisted of grammar and literature questions and competed with about 60 other people. Isabella competed with about 30 others. We are very proud of them!

 Congratulations to Zachary Tidwell, a ninth grader from Winston County High School, for winning the ALFA essay contest (7-9th grade division). The essay theme was media myths in agriculture.

Montgomery, Ala. - A total of 81 Alabama high school seniors have earned a prestigious national award, the High Schools That Work (HSTW) Award of Educational Achievement. This award is given to high school seniors who complete a challenging and focused program of study, and demonstrate readiness for employment and college studies. This year's award winners include these students from Winston County High School:
Amber Martin, Emily Hood, Jeremy Gates, Leah Mayhall, Jordan Courington, Robert Bryant
HSTW, a Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) initiative, is the largest high school improvement effort in the United States, with more than 1,300 school sites in 32 states.
