» Betsey Bartlett from Addison High School placed 1st in the State FCCLA 
Illustrated Talk - Junior Division. She received a Gold Medal and will be competing at the National FCCLA Conventionin San Diego this summer . The FCCLA sponsor at Addison is Ms. Dinah Vickery. 

» Meek sophomore basketball player Ashton Carter has been selected to take part in the U.S. Junior National Invitational Sports Festival set for July 25-31 in Columbus, Ohio. Ashton is one of ten players selected to represent the state of Alabama. She was chosen from sixty players after taking part in the All-State Junior Nationals tournament held in Hoover on March 13th.

» Addison School Libraries Set Record - 6155 books were checked out of the Addison Elementary & Addison High School Libraries during November 2004!!! It is our highest monthly circulation ever. Way to go students! 



» Congratulations to Coach Pam Wilkins of Addison High School. Coach Wilkins was named the State 1A-2A Coach of the Year by the Birmingham News. 

» The Winston County Technical Center is proud to announce the following students as outstanding students of the month for the first 9 weeks grading period.

» Congratulations to Georganna Comeens!
In April, The 2005 Educational Professional Award was presented to Mrs. Comeens for her Outstanding Contributions to Dyslexic Children of Alabama. This is the first time the award has been presented to anyone in Alabama. 

» Winston County High School»s Beta Club Earns Trophies at State Convention
Among the state winners were Kaylee Bohon, Heather Wilson, John Bailey, Jacob Alford. Scrapbook team members include Kayla Anthony, Haley Batchelor, John Bailey, Amber Miller, Ashley Millwood, Laci Tomlinson, Melanie Wakefield, and Bethany Wright. Heather Wilson and Jacob Alford earned the right to represent the state of Alabama at the National Convention in New Orleans, LA, June 19-22, 2005. 

» The following students won first place at the state Skills USA contest and will represent the Winston County Technical Center and the State of Alabama at the national contest in Kansas City, Missouri June 20-25.

Stephanie will attend Wallace State-Hanceville. She also placed 2nd in the State in Cosmetology. 

» Congratulations to Courtney Bell, an 8th grader at Meek High School. 
Courtney competed in the Alabama State Gymnastics Meet on March 11 where she won the state championship in her age group. She earned the right to compete in the Regional Meet at Vanderbilt University in Nashville in mid-April where it is possible that she could qualify for the Eastern National Competition. Courtney is the daughter of Steve and Linda Bell.

»  Meek High competed in the Regional Science Olympiad at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa on Feb 19th. 
Congratulations to Adam O'Gwin (9th grade) and Justin Harbison (7th grade) who won 3rd place bronze medals in the Bridge Building competition.

» Winston County High School Scholars Bowl team placed first in the Winston County Scholars Bowl Competition on Wednesday, March 23, 2005. The team members were Jennifer Brewer, Jacob Alford, Lee Batchelor, Kaylee Bohon, John Bailey Justin Moody, Malarie Beasley, Kayla Anthony, Ashley Yarbrough and Ashley Millwood. Jennifer Brewer, Jacob Alford and Lee Batchelor made the All County Team. Lee Batchelor tied for Most Valuable Player. 

 

» Double Springs Middle School Elementary Scholar's Bowl Team and Junior High Scholar's Bowl Team both won county. 

 

» Double Springs Middle School Spelling Bee Winner: Brig Kilgore 1st Alternate: Jessica Bloom. Brig also won the Winston County competition and placed 4th in the state Spelling Bee held in Birmingham, Alabama 

 

» Meek Elementary placed 2nd in the nation for Scholastic Book Fair "Read, White, and Blue" Family Event Scrapbook Contest, chaired by Amy Darty and Brandy Bladow

 

» Congratulations to Ory Hampton for being selected to the University of Alabama Honor Band. He was one of 250 students selected out of 900 applicants. 

» Congratulations to Abe Rooks of Addison High School. Abe was named to the All-State Football Team by both the Birmingham News and the Alabama Sports Writers Association. Also to Caleb Parker for receiving Honorable Mention All-State from the ASWA. 

» Adrian Caudill of the Double Springs Middle School won 1st place in the ALFA Farmers Poster Contest. Adrian's poster will be entered in the state contest.

» Congratulations to the Addison Bulldogs who was runner-up in the Toy Bowl Championship game. 

» Carol Anna Cagle, a 4th grade student from Lynn Elementary won the Alabama Gerontological Society Essay Contest. She received a $100 savings bond. Carol's teacher, Ms. Joan Elliott also received $100 for the classroom.

» Congratulations to Addison Elementary Students and Faculty who participated in the St. Jude Math-a-Thon. The school raised $5008.52 for St. Jude!
