Meek High School has many helpful and education clubs and organizations, one of which is the Library Club. The Library Club consists of a small group of teens who come together to share a common love of literature. Each month the club members either read a collective book or one of their own choosing. Members discuss the book, its theme, plot, characters, etc., and elaborate on any special significance or insight gained from that particular piece of literature.
However, the Library Club focuses on more than reading literature. It sponsors events throughout the school year to benefit the library and community. The club's major fundraiser is the spring beauty pageant. 2004's pageant was scheduled on April 2nd.
Also, the Library Club - in conjunction with the Meek Elementary School Library Club - took a field trip to the Gorgas Library at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa on March 21st. The club took a library tour as well as visited the campus and a bookstore. All members were excited about this trip.
Reading is a wonderful hobby. It takes you to places you could never imagine and opens your mind to a million new possibilities. The students in the MHS Library Club are fortunate enough to share these experiences together.
