We Are A Caring Community of
Kindergarten Friends
Good behavior is an essential – it’s the right way to act.
Misbehavior at school hinders learning - it affects the
child from being all he/she can be. Whether it is in the
classroom, in the lunchroom, in the library, or during any
instructional periods, friends care about friends and
promise to behave appropriately so everyone has the
opportunity for learning. Caring about how our actions
affect our peers is imperative. If a child is not behaving
appropriately during instructional activities he/she may be
excluded from the particular activity. If a child is not
taking care of things in our classroom then they are not
allowed to use those things until their behavior is under
control. I will act as a facilitator in allowing the
students to openly discuss problems they have with each
other (NO tattle telling allowed). It is my responsibility
to model how the students can take control of their own
situation. Soon students will begin to handle their own
problems. They will feel competent because they will be
experienced in discussing, negotiating and working through
previous situations.
In addition, we have a visual behavior chart to help
children monitor their own behavior. (Keep in mind our
GARDEN theme – BUNNIES frolic in gardens) Every student has
a BUNNY on a chart that contains five different colored
sections. These BUNNIES will indicate the student’s behavior
for the day. The student starts out on the WHITE section and
it should be the goal of the student to remain on WHITE
through out the day. If the student breaks a classroom
promise they will move their BUNNY. Children start on WHITE
every day. Please do not jump to conclusions and punish your
child before you here from me. Often BUNNIES are moved
because the child is carelessly distracting to others and
may be playing at an inappropriate time. In order to provide
a learning environment for all students, I must bring to the
child’s attention that inappropriate playing will cause them
to lose play time at PE.
The BUNNY moves are as follows:
GREEN Warning!
YELLOW Lose 5 minutes of PE
RED Lose 10 minutes of PE
BLACK Lose ALL of PE / Contact parent if necessary
I will contact you if severe behavior such as biting,
hitting, tantrums, refusing to do their work, etc. is
occurring. Please talk to your child about their day.
Periodically, ask your child if they have had to move their
BUNNY. When your child reports to you, they are taking the
first step towards taking responsibility and being
trustworthy.
